Believe the Hype!
That’s essentially what you are to do if you read what some of our competition is saying about themselves. If you value your integrity and don’t have “extra” money to waste, please read what they have to say very carefully. It can be very revealing about what the ultimate cost to you will be.
“WE HELP THE INDEPENDENTS!” If our competitors are really out to help independents, why are they charging their customers as if they were a major record label with a multimillion dollar budget? And why are they not upfront about what the total cost of a project will be? Look for all those added charges and extra fees for simple things and compare them with The Gate. You will see a clear difference in pricing—there are no hidden charges at The Gate. Period. Some of our competitors like to say that, but read their catalogs and price lists carefully. Notice how what they say doesn’t add up to what they print.
“BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE!” is another funny phrase. Says who? Ever ask them if an unbiased, trustworthy independent agency can verify the accuracy of their claims? The Gate can and does provide such a service. The Gate is an Honor Roll Member of the Better Business Bureau, going for years without a single complaint against our company. In fact, we garnered so much praise from our clients that the BBB invited us to become members based on our excellent record. No other manufacturer can make this claim. Call the Better Business Bureau and ask about The Gate. We’ll be glad you did.
“BEST REPUTATION!” Again, says who? The company making the claim? Do any of these companies making the claim back it up with any evidence? As above, we don’t know of any that do. Call the Better Business Bureau where the company is located and see if any complaints have been filed against the company. You might be unpleasantly surprised at what their reputation is.
“LINE OF CREDIT AVAILABLE!” Oh joy! Just what you wanted, eh? Another bank to “help” you get into debt. Truth is, most people can use their own credit cards to pay for a project and get a decent interest rate on them, if they need one. Look at the fine print from one of our competitors’ offers: “….[the bank] will set your APR between 14.99% and 27.99% based on your credit worthiness. The APR is not guaranteed and may change.” Why would anyone want to pay 28 percent interest on your own project? At The Gate, we take credit cards and personal checks, too. But we won’t help you take out a loan at a ridiculously high rate of interest. That’s not helping anybody, least of all the independent music community.
DISTRIBUTION: Yes, yes, we know there are other companies that promise you “distribution” however, this is not the case. They actually have secret payola agreements with private on-line independent CD stores that are not a part of the national retail distribution system. This is a common sales gimmick to get you in the door. Ask them! Ask them exactly how they are going to help you promote and sell your project.
